Salmon and trout reports

Monday 2nd to Sunday 8th April 2007.

RIVER DROWES

The Drowes was running at low levels all week due to the very dry spell of weather we have been receiving. Due to conditions, there have been few anglers fishing over the week despite there being fresh salmon present. George McAteer caught and returned an 8lb salmon at the weekend and a visiting American angler hooked and lost another salmon. All in all a quiet week on the fishery.

LOUGH MELVIN

The salmon angling on Lough Melvin over the week has been good with a number of salmon recorded. 4 salmon were caught on Wednesday. Seamus Adare & Gerry O’Brian fishing together had a salmon apiece trolling Devon Minnows. The fish weighed in around the 8lb mark. There were 2 similar sized salmon caught for the day by 2 other anglers, the details of which I don’t have at present. On Thursday, John Flanagan accounted for an 8lb salmon caught trolling and Keith Flanagan caught another 8lb salmon and a fine trout of some 7½lb on the troll from the Garrison area. On Sunday, Kevin McCabe recorded a 9 ½ lb salmon caught on the troll. Michael Murphy caught and released a 7lb salmon caught on the fly (a Green Peter) from Dolan’s Bay. Few anglers have been fishing for trout so there is little to report on this front.
