Salmon and trout angling | Coarse angling
Monday 12th to Sunday 18th March 2007.
The fishery was fairly quiet over the week with only a limited number of anglers fishing. The weather over the weekend was shocking with constant gales, snow, rain, sleet, cats & dogs! This curtailed many anglers from fishing. There were a number of salmon recorded however. Brian McClintock recorded a 9lb salmon caught from the Mill Pool on a Flying ‘C’ which was released back to the river. Davy McDowell, Belfast, accounted for a 9lb salmon caught from ‘The Blackwater’ on a fly and Tony Parker also recorded a 9lb salmon caught on a Green Highlander fly.
Lough Melvin tells a similar story again this week with only a few anglers venturing out after salmon and little or no fishing for trout. John Flanagan lost a couple of salmon and there was a salmon caught on Sunday. I am still awaiting confirmation of the details of this fish. There are still large numbers of Kelts being hooked and returned. It’s nice to know that good numbers of fish spawned over the winter.
