Salmon and trout angling | Coarse angling
Monday 19th to Sunday 25th March 2007.
The Drowes remained quiet all week with few anglers fishing until Saturday. Attendance is approximately half of what it normally would be given the time of year and conditions. There were 4 salmon recorded on Saturday to 11lb. Two were caught from the Washstones, 1 from Tinker’s Hole and 1 from the Round Hole. There were a number of big double figure fish sighted.
Lough Melvin has been fishing well again this week with fair numbers of salmon recorded. The weather has been more settled this week with a high pressure system prevalent all week. There was definitely a touch of spring in the air and the main complaint was that it was too bright!
There were 2 salmon caught on Thursday. Darren Maguire recorded a 9lb 14oz salmon and Robbie Beattie accounted for a 7½lb fish. On Friday, Brian McEvoy caught an 8½lb salmon. 2 salmon were caught on Sunday and I’m still awaiting confirmation of the details. All these fish were caught on trolled Devon Minnows. The trout fishing has been good for those who ventured out after the same. Very few anglers have been fishing for trout however. Gene Harron had a good day during the week fishing the Kinlough Bay area accounting for 10 Sonaghan on various wet flies. The improvement in weather has brought on a hatch of Duckfly and there are a number of buzzers hatching.
