Salmon and trout angling | Coarse angling
Monday 30th April to Sunday 6th May 2007.
There was little rainfall again this week and so the river remained at low levels all week. The fishery was quiet once again. There were however, a number of salmon caught over the week. Danny Clifford recorded a 5lb fish caught on the fly. Brian McClintock accounted for a 7lb salmon caught on the spinner. Jim English recorded an 8lb salmon caught on the fly and Gary Bennett, a 10lb salmon caught on the shrimp. All the fished were released.
Lough Melvin was quiet this week with very few boats fishing for salmon and less for trout. With other fisheries getting hatches of mayfly, Melvin always seems to have a lull in angling at this point in the season until the mayfly starts on the Lough, usually in June. Though the mayfly seems to be early everywhere this season!
With the bright sunny weather, the Lough and River remained at very low levels all week and there was little angling. 1 angler, Tommy Burns, fished on the Sunday recording a number of brown trout caught on the fly.
The story is the same on the Owenea Fishery this week. With no rainfall, the river remained very low all week and the gauge average for the week read a very low 0.11 metres. There were no visiting anglers fishing this week and hence little to report.

There was a three day event on Lough Garadice with 30 Anglers fishing in 3 groups of 10. They fished Haughtons Shore, Church Shore and back of Church Shore. The following is a list of overall winners together with their weights:

Waterways Ireland sponsored this competition which is to become an annual event. Bookings have been taken for next year's event.
