Salmon and trout reports

Monday 7th to Sunday 13th May 2007

RIVER DROWES

The Drowes was running at fairly low levels over the week with little rainfall to freshen things up. The river was fairly quiet with only a limited number of anglers fishing. There were 2 salmon recorded however. David McKee and Colin Gardner recorded salmon of 8 and 6lb caught on shrimp and fly releasing both.

LOUGH MELVIN

It’s the same story again this week with Lough Melvin being quiet with few boats fishing for salmon and less for trout. Most anglers seem to be away fishing the ‘Mayfly’ on Erne. Frank Lilly recorded a 4lb grilse caught trolling from the Planting Shore at Garrison.

ESKE FISHERY

The river was running at low levels on Monday but rain overnight raised levels on Lough and River to give good water for the rest of the week. With the fishery closed for salmon this season there has been little fishing effort to date since the sea trout do not arrive in numbers until July. There were no visiting anglers fishing over the week.

OWENEA FISHERY

There were a couple of freshes on the Owenea Fishery this week on Tuesday and Thursday which saw the gauge rise to 0.29 at its highest. The gauge average for the week read 0.22 metres. 5 visiting rods fished over the week. The fishery has been quiet this season to date and we are still waiting for the first salmon of the season to be recorded.
