Salmon and trout reports

Monday 18th to Sunday 24th February 2008.

RIVER DROWES

The week brought some wet and windy weather which ensured that the river only dropped slowly. At present the gauge at Four Masters Bridge is reading just under 6, nice conditions for fly fishing. There were a number of anglers fishing over the weekend and 2 salmon were recorded on Sunday. Helen McLoughlin recorded a 10½lb salmon caught on a Flying ‘C’ and another angler landed an 11lb salmon caught on the fly.

LOUGH MELVIN – RIVER DROWES

Melvin remains quiet with few anglers venturing out on the lough. The northern side of the Lough is still closed at present. There is talk of the opening of a small section (Phonsie McGovern’s) adjacent to the Rossinver Fishery. Watch this space! The forecast for the week is bad with gales and rain forecast and I would expect few anglers to be venturing out.
