CONSERVATION OF TROUT BYE-LAW NO. 869, 2010 (LOUGH GOWNA)
This Bye-law provides for the following trout conservation measures in Lough Gowna:
Monday 1st March to Sunday 7th March 2010.
The settled weather continued over the week and remained dry with frost during most nights. This meant the river continued to fall over the week to read 0.42 by the end of the week giving very low levels especially given the time of year. Fishing has been slow with few rods out during the week. A few more rods fished over the weekend. It was not until Saturday that any salmon were recorded. Trevor Hassan accounted for a 10lb salmon caught from Rooney’s Turn on a Flying ‘C’ and B. Razzian registered a 10lb salmon caught on worm from the Money Hole. The forecast is for further settled and frosty weather with little precipitation and the river may continue to fall further still.
Melvin continued to drop as the week progressed and now is at a very low level indeed. The weather brought cold & frosty conditions with calm weather for the most part. Few rods ventured out on the Lough and there is little to report so far. Francis McSharry caught a salmon from the Roosky area and I am awaiting details of the size etc. I have no news of trout fishing with very few anglers yet fishing for the same.
